Well, I certainly hope so Andy... I think we both know that Dan is a cool dude and it is senseless to bash someone who is (normally) so nonconfrontational... there are two sides to every argument... but either way I would truly appreciate it if the bashing stopped... I come to this site to relax, and I come to this thread to enjoy Dan's writing... as of right now I can't seem to do either without looking over my shoulder... Sun |

next installment for the faithful! :-) Ryan got some dried meat that Rogers had In the eating house for a snack. When he went up to the room he saw Rain and Krysty lying in bed together sleeping. He smiled and thought how long it had been since all three of them shared a room. He decided not to disturb them, he took a quick cold shower in the bathroom. And laid down on the floor in some dry clothes. He laid his weapons next to him and left his boots under the window to dry out from the day’s sweaty hardships. Krysty had laid out his bedroll in case he came back. As he drifted off to sleep he was happy he had his talk with Kris, and felt better about them being together. He seemed like a good man and a honest fighter. And he couldn’t ask for more from a suitor for his little girl. Well, Ryan being dead and long gone and not seeing her with him would have been better, but oh well. Weariness overtook him and he though about how a young man he was no more. And the fight took more out of him than he could remember. His legacy would go on though. He just hoped her life would last longer than his. The morning found Ryan waking alone in the room. Rain and Krysty had gotten up before him and left him alone. They had placed a wooden tray with some food on it for him to eat. A small loaf of bread, some butter, a wooden cup with some kind of juice and another piece of dried meat. He got up, got dressed the rest of the way and snacked on the food. He looked outside and saw it was mid to late morning. Usually he was an early riser but he was still tired and sore for the day before. He stretched a little and saw Krysty in the wag doing something, he figured she was going over the wag to make sure the previous nights activities had left it 100%. He also saw a group of sec doing some drills near the gate. Kris was leading them in some knife fight drills and they were checking the gate to make sure it was working right. Ryan decided he wanted to go partake in the knife drills and see how good Kris was. He smiled at the possibility in giving the kid some humility. He took out the panga and made sure the release worked fine, and cleaned off a little bit of the dried blood from the night before. He took out the small stone J.B. had given him and trued the edge a little bit till it was gleaming in the light. He took some short swings to make sure he was loose enough for this, re-sheathed the large blade and went down to the yard to see what he could do against the younger man. Krysty didn’t see Ryan approach but heard his footsteps, he smacked her on the butt as he came over to the wag and she sat up and playfully punched him in the shoulder. “Go rough last night lover?” “Not too bad” he said. The Barron took out some coldheaarts with the gren launcher, Kris and I cleaned out the rest and the anti-pers charge took out the last 2” He recounted. “Yeah saw the marks on the side and figured someone was stupe enough to try to get into the lockboxes. Did I hear you brought someone back?” she asked .”Yeah. Barron had him taken over to the cell they got in the guard shack. I doubt the feeb will have much to say. From what Kris said the stupe bastard fell out of a tree at least 8 feet up and hit his head on a root. Bet his brains got scrambled. If he wakes up at all he won’t be worth much for a long time.” “So what now?” She asked. “Time to see if Rain’s boy has got the good when it comes to knife combat. He was handy with a blaster last night and said he threw a knife that caught the fucker he aced right in the neck. Saw him doing drills with his sec crew, thought I’d join in” Ryan smiled. “UUUHHHH” Krysty groaned. “You gonna try to show him up?” “Ryan’s smile faded. “No, he proved to me last night he can hold his own, and we talked for a minute and we got each other straight with what we expect. I’ll deal with my feelings about him in my own time. But I’m ok with him for now.” “Good” Krysty sighed. “He may be good with a blade but he knows as well as everyone else that they don’t have your experience, go over and offer help and don’t treat him like some stupid Jolt head kid alright? Rain would never forgive you if you hurt him!” “Okay okay” Ryan spit. “I’ll be nice” “Uh huh” she retorted. “You’d better!”

FIGHT!!! ok here it is.... Still rough though..didn't have the time to edit at all..but wanted to get this down today...last installment for a while...enjoy! With that Ryan turned on his heels and stalked over to the gate where the sec were working out. Kris saw him coming and gave him a weak smile as he was trying to deflect another guards blade. Ryan saw they were training with their knives but both had leather sheaths over them so as not to hurt each other or the blades if dropped, or if a strike was successful. He was happy to see they were training with their own weaps but being safe about it. No need to really hurt someone on your team even if it was an accident. Ryan stood at the back of the group as Kris expertly skipped sideways from a front strike by his opponent, he grabbed the guys arm with his free one and pulled to give the man more momentum, he then twisted his body and threw the guy on the ground and locked up his arm behind his back and made to stab the guy in the back of his neck. A strike that would have severed the guys spinal cord had the blade not been covered. Kris sat on the guys back to drive home the point that the guy was dead and he addressed the group. “Always look at the guys shoulders, if you fixate on the blade you will never see it coming. Re-directing the guys energy gives you the advantage. And don’t make it pretty, chill the guy as hard and fast as you can so you can move on to the next opponent. Anyone else want to try?” Ryan spoke up right then, “want to fight an old man?” The group turned and saw who was in their midst and all smiled. They had wondered if this showdown would ever occur. “Sure, need me to tie one hand behind my back to make it fair?” Kris replied with a smile. Ryan chuckled. “I was going to ask you the same thing!” Everyone had a laugh at that and they parted ranks to allow Ryan to make his way up. Kris got off his opponent who got up a little red in the face from being beaten so easily, and as Ryan passed he whispered in Ryan’s direction “ Take him out like he took me out and I’ll give you some real shine I found a while back” “Deal” Ryan said under his breath. Kris looked at him a little concerned. He knew Ryan would not be afraid of him, and even though he was younger than Ryan, he knew Ryan was stronger, and tons more experienced. But Kris knew he was better, whether enough on skill alone it would make a difference he would find out. Ryan took off his leg sheath for his Panga and wrapped the straps around it so they wouldn’t flail. “Mind if I use this or is it too much of a disadvantage for you to use such a shorter blade?” Ryan asked Kris. “No problem for me” Kris replied. “Want to teach these guys anything special?” Ryan asked. “Not this time around, let’s just see what you got” Kris responded. “Ok. Let’s do this” Ryan and Kris started to slowly circle the space, each looking at each other and gauging the distance and what they needed to do to get the advantage. Ryan immediately knew he had one advantage. Kris, though a good fighter, was nervous. He was moving around a little too much, and his eyes were not looking at his shoulders like he had just directed, he was darting them side to side quickly. He knew his attack would be fast but he would telegraph it. And so he did. As Ryan stepped to his right Kris took one big step forward and threw out his knife hand right where Ryan should have been. Kris timed the strike to be in the middle of Ryan step, but Ryan saw his eye focus and he knew it was now. Even then Kris was very fast and had Ryan completed the step he would have been hit right in the chest by the strike. Instead Ryan dropped to one knee as he was moving and Kris’s strike went high, at the same time Ryan reversed his Panga so it was handle up and hit Kris’s wrist from the bottom, numbing it immediately and the knife flew out of his hand and straight up. Kris pulled his hurt hand back quick and Ryan plucked the knife out of the air as it came spinning down. His smile never faltered and it almost looked like he had expended no energy. Except for the dirt patch on his knee it looked like he had both knives all along. The gasp from the people gathered around was loud, they had never seen anyone beat Kris in the past year and Ryan did it in about 2 seconds. “You saw me make the decision didn’t you?” Kris asked. “Yep, your were looking side to side and when you stopped I knew it was coming.” Ryan said simply. By now other people from the ville had gathered around to watch. Not everyday did you see a legend fight. Ryan saw ville folk placing small bets with each other and slapping each other on the back enjoying the moment. Ryan threw the knife gently back at Kris and asked if he wanted to try again. “Sure” Kris said. This time Ryan knew Kris would relax more, and he did. They circled to the left this time and Ryan decided to attack first. He took a step forward and to his left, seeming like he was going to go for a straight strike, Kris Put up his arm to defend but Ryan spun and backhanded the panga in an ark at Kris’s head. The move was fast but Kris ducked under it. But Ryan knew he would and kept the swing going, but changed the direction of the horizontal swing into an uppercut that came over the top. This Kris had not anticipated and he was caught flatfooted. In the last split second he brought up his blade to deflect the blow, but the power and speed of the panga was too much and his small knife was deflected down and onto the ground. Kris yelled in rage as Ryan still smiled and looked like he expended no energy. Kris rolled forward and picked up his knife and in an underhanded uppercut went for Ryan’s throat. Ryan wasn’t expecting this and wasn’t prepared for Kris to be that close and inside his defense that fast. Ryan threw his head back and ended up on the ground in a backwards somersault to get out of the way. Kris was up and literally leaped in the air as Ryan rolled with is blade pointed down to go for a body strike and hit him in the ribs. Ryan rolled to the side as well as backwards knowing Kris would try such a move, instead of hitting Ryan in the back the blow glanced off Ryan’s left side and Ryan used his left arm as a pivot and threw himself over. His ribs hurt at the point where Kris’s knife hit, and had the blade not been sheathed it would have cut him good, but not fatally. Ryan’s somersault and sideways roll had the other effect of having Kris land almost flat on his stomach and knock the wind out of him. It was an all or nothing move and he knew it. Ryan was up on his feet as Kris tried to gather himself. Ryan would usually go for the kill at this point but he let Kris get up. Kris was breathing hard but had a small smile knowing he had scored a wound on Ryan. Bur Ryan had held back and knew if this was real Kris would be chilled by now. And everyone else knew it too. But the crowd also knew Kris had scored a hit and their opinion of him went up. Ryan’s smirk was too much for Kris though, and he went to his last resort. He flipped his knife over and threw it at Ryan in one quick motion. His hand was a blur and the knife was thrown at tremendous speed. Ryan’s only reaction was to hold the Panga up broad side in front of his face and Kris’s blade hit it and clanged loudly as it feel to the ground. The hit was so powerful that Ryan’s hand was numbed from the hit and vibration and he almost lost his grip on the blade. Kris had followed up the knife throw with a straight-on heel kick that Ryan took on his left arm. He grabbed Kris around the knee and swept his leg out from under him and as he fell he used his right arm to piston the panga’s point down towards Kris’s neck. As Kris hit the ground he looked up to see Ryan standing over him, the Panga at his neck ready to sever his head. He had lost, and lost handily, but he knew he had done ok against such a superior fighter. Ryan offered his hand and helped Kris up. Applause had erupted from the gathered crowd and he saw jack changing hands. All knew Kris was skilled, but Ryan had the upper hand from personal combat experience. Kris dusted himself off. Ryan offered a quick word to him to keep his ego intact. “You got a bastard good hit on me, and I’d be in a real bad way now. I would have lived for a while but could have bled out after. Your good. And that was a good fight you put up.” “Not good enough to beat you though eh?” Kris added. “Well, I haven’t lived this long for no reason.” Kris laughed a little at that. “Guess what I have heard of you is true, no one in this ville can match me, so guess the lack of competition has dulled me a little bit.” “Can be a factor I guess, I have been all over and had to fight some bastard hardcore men and muties in my day. No better training than saving your own skin day by day.” Ryan addressed the gathered ville folk. “Good display by Kris, my only word of advice is that if you got for broke like he did at the end, you’d better be bastard sure it is going to work, or you’ll be on the hard end of a blade or a blaster. Only do it if you have no choice.” The group nodded in understanding and were glad to see him in action. Krysty and Rain had come over by that point after watching and staying out of the way. Rain asked Kris if he was alright and he nodded yes. Krysty knew Ryan was ok but his ego had taken a slight hit. But she knew he was seasoned enough to learn from this.

Excellent! You were made to write fight scenes my friend! I think this was probably your best so far... though I didn't read the smutty parts that weren't posted earlier, I imagine it takes a back seat to this one... Sonny better be somewhere working out and getting into shape if he's gonna keep up with these hard*sses... lol Sun |

The fight scene was well done. Fighting with your standard knife in its sheath is not a bad way to train if you are unable to obtain a good copy of your knife in trainier form. I enjoy sparring with several of my friends and no matter who gets tossed to the mat the most or choked out - we are still friends. You only get better by training with people that are better or at least as good as you are. By sparring with each other we get to know each others strengths and weaknesses. Makes us a tighter unit in the field. |

The hard part of this kind of training is not injuring your sparing partners. My karate Sensei was sparring with his top student who has trained with him for over 25 years and Sensei accidentally broke three of his student’s ribs. Our Karate Dojo teaches Okinawan, Korean and Japanese Karate and it sucks when you injure a friend. That and it sucks when you get called on the mat by the 1st SGT for injuring a fellow soldier and the dreaded paperwork to follow. “Well you see Top, I was doing a flying roundhouse heel kick and did not pull it enough and fractured Joe’s jaw;” does not fly with the command. I do like the fact that Dan has used several different weapons. You think there would be more G3s, FNFALs, HK91s, CETMEs (cheap Latin G3 clone) etc floating around. I came across a Chinese-contract Inglis Browning Hi Power in near mint condition this weekend at the gun show – instant drool factor!! Too bad it costs as much as a mid-size sedan. According to the provenance papers some Canadian missionary brought it back from China in the early ‘50s – praise the Lord and pass the ammo – eh? |

I try to keep the weapons part of the story going and interesting...glad you liked it...i've seen some guns at shows that i too have drooled over and realized i would never own..a real Thompson for one...$6000 in mint condition and a class 3 licence....plus tons of others..really want a desert eagle MKXIX in .44 mag - but $1000+ for one handgun is out of my reach... (sigh) i've been at home sick with the flu for the past 5+ days..and my latest chapters are at work..so i can't post anything more till i get back to it..will be a while guys..sorry... |
