    I would just like to direct everyone's attention to the Wiki link in the site navigation.  It has been there forever, but the wiki software I was using was problematic and I never put a lot of effort into adding content there.  A few weeks ago I installed a new wiki module (Canam Wiki Pro by Canam Solutions) and Kerrick stepped up to take ownership of the new JamesAxler.com wiki project.  He has filled it with a great deal of information, but of course there are plenty of gaps - particularly as relates to Outlanders, since he has not read those books yet.

    So, first of all I just wanted to publicly say:  Bravo, Kerrick, very nice job!

    Second, I would like to encourage everyone to check it out.  You can get there by just clicking Wiki in the site navigation in the upper left hand corner of the page.

    Finally, I would like to encourage anyone and everyone to contribute.  This is particularly a call out to you die-hard Outlanders fans.  Now is your chance to step up and be constructively proactive.  If you have never worked with a wiki before, don't be afraid to wade right in.  Kerrick was even thoughtful enough to create a wiki page on how to create and edit wiki pages - you can read it here or follow the link for it on the wiki home page.

    Now, one last little carrot:  I have sitting on my desk right here a stack of brand new, shrinkwrapped Graphic Audio CD's.  If you have never listened to the Graphic Audio productions, you are really missing out.  They are nothing short of spectacular.  For anyone who makes a worthwhile contribution to the wiki, while supplies last I will send you one of these CD's as a prize.  That's a $19.99 value, and all it takes is a little constructive contribution on your part.

    What constitutes "worthwhile"?  Well, obviously that is entirely subjective on my part.  Going in and editing and existing page by changing one word probably won't qualify.  Going in and creating a new page that covers the entire history of the Tuatha Dé Danann as they relate to the secret history of the Earth and their manipulation of mankind?  Well, that there will probably land you a free audio book.

    So, get cracking, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.  Both Kerrick and I will be more than happy to assist you with any issues and/or questions you might  have.  I look forward to seeing what you all can contribute, I know there is a lot of knowledge and passion out there just waiting to be tapped.

    Thanks Ron. This is a really great opportunity for me; I've done freelance writing before, but I've never gotten to do something like build the wiki on an official fansite. It's so cool to see it all up and running now!

    To everyone else: Get in there and add some content! This is the official wiki, the one that codifies canon for the series. If it's not there, no one will know about it.

    My question is: The wiki in general, and especially for Outlanders would contain a wealth of spoiler information. Would it be advisable to let people know that Spoiler info may be there?

    My feeling is that if you are reading book summaries and other similar information, it is just assumed that it is filled with spoilers.

    Kerrick, what do you think?

    I just went in and added the Outlanders Books page, in the same format you used for the Deathlands Books page. So there's a starting point...

    I agree - a wiki touted as containing all the information from the series would, by association, contain spoilers.

    I think when I first started doing the book summaries, I considered making a note about spoilers, but book summary = spoiler anyway, so I didn't bother.

    I just noticed... you mispelled my name in the title, Ron.  And thanks for the book list - I'd meant to do that and  totally forgot about it.

    I just wanted to make a quick post. I've been fighting burnout for awhile now.

    I got a couple new books written up (Red Holocaust and Circle Thrice), and added a ton of new content from those (lots of old characters, for instance). I've got three and a half more books that I've read but haven't summarized (one is half-written); I wanted to wait until I had them all done and do it in one huge update, but I figured it was better just to add what I had for now and do the rest later. I've got another fifteen or so coming soon (I went to visit my family a couple weeks ago and got to root through all my books that were packed up; I found a bunch I didn't know I had, and a lot I did ).

    I don't know how much traffic the wiki's getting (if any), but if you like it, give me a shout out. I know I'm shamelessly begging for praise, but I need some motivation to keep working on this. I was hoping some other folks would step up and add some OL (or even DL) content, but all we've got are web bots replacing page content with spam links.

    You are doing an excellent job, and I do hope you keep at it. Believe me, I know how burnout happens (I've been doing this gig for 13 years now, myself).

    I've been busy with work stuff (how unusual!), but when I have a moment I will send you the google analytics to see how the site traffic looks.

    BTW - I've been intercepting a steady trickle of those spammy updates to the DL pages. Are the OL ones going through without moderation?

    Oh, cool. I have Analytics set up for my other Wikidot site... it's really nice. I have all next week off from work, so I'll try to get those last three books done (though I'll be doing a little travelling too).

    AFAICT, there haven't been any changes to any OL pages since I set them up - it seems even the spambots are ignoring them.

    Wow, must've been a really good job if you said it twice! But seriously... thanks. I needed that.

    I've added two more books - Baptism of Rage and Shadow World - along with several new characters and locations, and fixed a few mistakes I found in the other pages. I have just one more in my backlog (Desert Kings; I'm not looking forward to it, because I hate Pollotta's books). My box o' books still hasn't arrived. Gotta love the US Postal Service.

    Kerrick, you've done a fab job with the DL/OL wiki. I  appreciate all the effort you have put into this project. One thing I noticed in Dean's profile is that it mentions that he is 14 years old. I have been keeping close tabs on him, aging him slowly over the years from his being 9 to 13ish. So he's 13. This is important as he will have aged two years in his next DL appearance. Everyone else ages as well, and I want to keep Jak in his teens. Could you please make the change? Thank you.

    Oh, he's 13? I was guessing - the books stopped keeping track of him when he was 12ish, and it's really hard to judge how much time has passed since most of the books take place in a vacuum, timewise.

    Just so you know, anyone can make changes to the wiki, as long as you're registered. I just happen to be the only one doing it right now.

    BTW... hey Jax, you'll be happy to know I bought/read an OL book (Iceblood, the earliest one I could find) at the local used bookstore. They used to have a pretty good stock, but someone came by and bought up most of them, along with most of the DL books. I'll get the summary up sooner or later, regardless.

    Rejoice! I've added the first Outlanders book summary to the wiki! Iceblood is now listed. I've made a list of some characters, but only the ones appearing the book (Gyatso, Zakat, and Dorjieff) have any information; I'll fill in what I know about the Cerberus crew later.

    Question for anyone who cares to answer:

    I'm currently reading Parallax Red, which has a bit of info about Scenario Joshua and Overproject Excalibur (it's dedicated to genetics). Among the other projects attributed to Whisper, we've got Janus (enables the whitecoats to clone a new being with changed attributes), Calypso (something about resistance/immunity to disease - I don't recall exactly) and Enterprise Eternity (the vampires). These would logically fall under a program dedicated to genetic research...

    But my question is: Since these appeared before Outlanders was written, should we retcon them to be under Excalibur, so as to attempt to enforce a little cohesion to the Totality Concept? It's not like they'll ever appear in the books again anyway...

    Also, what about the weapons programs - Styx and Eurydice? Those would likely fall under something unrelated to Whisper (which, I'm thinking, was mostly centered around continuity of government).

    I think there is more detailed information about the weapons programs and genetic divisions in Armageddon Axis and Shadow Scourge. Operation Chronois is laid out in Tomb of Time and a couple of other books.
    "It's better to have a blaster and not need it than to need it and--" "Oh, spare me," Brigid said irritably. (Kane and Brigid Baptiste from Armageddon Axis)

    I'm guessing Outlanders... I've read all the DL books up to Shadow Fortress (50-something), which is well after OL's inception. I'll have to see if I can find Armageddon Axis and that other one.

    I went back and checked and technically, you're right.

    The first "Axlerverse" mention of Overproject Excalibur was the inaugural Outlanders novel, Exile to Hell.

    However, I created Excalibur for DL Nightmare Passage...which although written before Exile to Hell, wasn't published until shortly after the third Outlanders novel.

    Just wanted to add an update; I (finally) finished the synopsis for Parallax Red, and added a ton of information - characters, locations, a page for Overproject Excalibur, and some other odds and ends. I still haven't gotten around to doing write-ups for the main characters, but I'll do it soon, I promise.

    I got my box o' books a few weeks ago and burned through Breakthrough so I could finish up the Shadow Earth trilogy. I added that and Doom Helix, as well as the summary for Crucible of Time (I've had it done for months, but forgot to add it) and fixed a bunch of minor errors I found.

    Coming soon: Crater Lake, Pony Soldiers, Dectra Chain, Ice and Fire, Freedom Lost, Way of the Wolf, Starfall, Pandora's Redoubt, and Zero City.

    I added the summary for Playfair's Axiom, and fixed the screamwing entry in Flora and Fauna. I accidentally named them stingwings, which are mutie bats from the Gamma World RPG, which, incidentally, is set in a post-apocalypse world, hence my unconscious mistake. I'm just surprised it took this long to catch it.

    I introduced the screamwings in Stoneface...and although "stingwings" may have appeared in the Gamma World RPG, I named my cratures as a homage to the stingwings that appeared in Harry Harrison's first book in the Deathworld series.

    Huh. Looks like I was wrong. I did some checking, and stingwings don't appear in Gamma World - I did take the name from the Deathworld books . Funny, since I read them 20+ years ago; I never would've remembered if you hadn't mentioned it.

    Greetings and welcome (and sorry it's taken so long to see your post)! Anyone is free to add stuff to the wiki; I just happen to be the only one who seems to be interested in doing so. I've only got about half the books myself; I add info as I get my hands on more. Anything you can add would be great.

    Oopsie. I was updating the wiki with the new book info, and I kinda broke things again. Ron, can you fix it?

    Edit: I see what it's doing: if I update a page multiple times without saving, it throws an error (after adding new content, I check the preview for mistakes and do corrections as necessary).

    No... I can load the main page and the list of books just fine, but when I clicked on a random link to a book summary, I got the error. I could get to it through the Books category, and I updated a couple things, but when I previewed one page, it totally FUBARed everything. It looks like using the preview function at all is causing it - might be something added in the latest update; I haven't messed with the wiki much since then, so I never caught it until now.

    I see what you mean. I'll have to contact tech support for the Wiki module vendor. I see that they have a newer version (we're on something like v1.3, and the current version is v2.0.1), so it might be something that upgrading would fix. This is a different error than we were getting before. I think the module is just not playing nice with DNN 6.

    Thanks. I was going to do some updating, but I'll wait till you get the upgrade done.

    Edit: I know I said I was going to wait, but since I had a day off, I figured I'd do the updates anyway. I keep text-file backups of everything (it's easier to do edits offline, and backups = good), so when things went down, I decided to go through everything. I ended up making at least minor changes to just about every single page:

    Numerous minor edits and corrections (more than I can count), including fixing broken links and typos, and making sure that all links are capitalized properly (IE doesn't care, but Firefox is case-sensitive);

    Several new entries for people and places that were mentioned in book summaries;

    A new page with all the redoubt maps - I've only got 8-10 locations listed there, as that was all the uncorrupted pics I could snag from the archives, but these are all linked where the name of the specific location (e.g., Redoubt Bravo) appears;

    Cleaned up the Gateways page;

    Added the DL foldout map from PtH to the World page (yes, I know it's really freaking big; maybe someone can size it down a bit for me?);

    And probably a few other things I forgot.

    There are some people and place names that are linked but have no entry. This is deliberate (the links, not the lack of entries) - I know they're important, but I don't have the book(s) where they appear; when I DO get them, I can just add the entry and not have to worry about searching down every single reference to add a link.

    The redoubt maps page is slightly messed up - in order to get the Redoubt Alpha maps side-by-side to save space, I had to put them in a table. Unfortunately, it looks like the wiki doesn't like having images in a table, so the "div align" tags are visible at the top. There's nothing I can do; maybe a software upgrade will fix this.

    It's a major version number upgrade, and not just a maintenance point update, so there may be a cost to the upgrade.

    Thanks to starchildgalaxy (I probably mispelled that, but whatever), I'm now the proud owner of books 1-66! Expect more updates in the next month or two as I sort through everything and fill in the gaps.

    I've added Neutron Solstice, Red Equinox, and Homeward Bound. It was nice to finally get some of those entries updated (the Cawdor clan, Rick Ginsburg, etc.). I also added some formatting (blank lines) to all the characters' pages, the flora and fauna page, and the DL timeline to make the entries easier to read.

    Harry, I'm going to be a complete an utter ass here but it HAS to be said.

    Unless you use a spell checker, no one is going to want you adding to the database. Seriously.

    In this post alone you misspelled should, would (twice) and read. On top of that the entries would need to have proper grammar as well as punctuation and capitalization.

    I'm pretty certain that no one will want to have to go through the updates you post to correct them. It would be extremely time consuming.

    Harry, that's fine, Ron can deal with me in any way he sees fit, but the simple truth stands... yes, anyone can contribute to the database...

    In this post you misspelled what's, wrong, read, and write.

    But frankly the paragraph that you cut and paste into your post should specify that only those with a basic understanding of the English language and basic grasp of spelling should be allowed to contribute.

    Let me ask you this... what's to stop someone from simply erasing anything that you contribute because it is all but illegible?

    You really have to do yourself a favor and use a spell checker before you post. Honest to god, I know that I'm not the only one who, after reading a post you put up, has a mental image of someone who is barely literate.

    If you're dyslexic that's another story. And if that's the case, then I apologize for being harsh.

    But even more reason for you to use a spell checker.

    The simple fact is that many of the words you misspell are typically in other posts and it is very easy to just look up at the previous posts to see how the words are spelled correctly.

    Take this post as advice, take it as a personal attack, what have you. This is being said for your own good.

    I remember several years ago when a poster here responded to opinions that he needed a refresher course in basic English by threatening to "cill" us, nobody was sure if he was serious or mocking himself.

    But, regardless, we all had a laugh.

    Maybe that's all the reaciton Harry is looking for, too.

    Unfortunately, it's a pretty limited comedy routine.

    Harry,
    Any registered user is welcome, and even encouraged, to contribute to the wiki. I keep it limited to registered users instead of allowing anonymous updates only to minimize intentional defacement.

    That being said, also be aware that both Kerrick and I receive an email whenever any update is made to the wiki, and we *do* pay attention. Any updates may very well be edited for grammar/spelling/coherency. That is true of any updates made by any user, not a personal attack against you.

    Thing 1: I didn't just remove your post, I removed another hostile post as well. It wasn't about censoring you personally, it was about doing my job and moderating this forum.

    Thing 2:
    another Another one of my posts get gets wiped off. im I'm not happy with this. its It's ok for your long time fans to post what they want but i I cant can't. i I dont don't think i I will bother with your stupid wikki wiki now as most of anything i I put onthere on there will be taken off by you anyway. thisis This is so unfare unfair on us new peple people here.

    --

    Believe me, Harry, I encourage new people to post here. And sometimes unfair things happen and I try my best to correct them. But there is nothing unfair happening here. Numerous people have very politely pointed out to you how your style of writing comes across. A few people have pointed it out not quite so politely, and I have removed all of those impolite posts that I am aware of.

    Please, give me some reason to believe you are not a troll.  Get yourself a browser like Firefox or Chrome that has spell check built into it, and every time you see a word with red squiggles under it just right click on it and at least look at the corrections. Capitalize the first letter of your sentences. Please, do *something* to show a little effort.

    Dude, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. On the other hand, when you write like that you come across as either completely illiterate or else a troll, and nobody is likely to take you seriously at all. That's your choice.

    Harry -

    Didn't you say in a post to Baz that you were probably older than he was, and resorted to calling him a boy? And now you're stating that you're in school and that you use this kind of atrocious spelling and grammar all the time?

    And you state that you get away with it?

    My god above, no wonder the states is going to hell in a hand basket if teachers are allowing the English language to degrade in such a way that this kind of spelling and grammar is not only accepted but appears to be encouraged.

    I can see your friends not minding, since clearly they are like minded and, if what you are saying is true, that lazy that they can't take the time to spell even the simplest of words and phrases.

    I pity the new generation. Growing up fat and lazy and clearly stupid.

    If people put as much effort into learning a new language and studying as they put into using Netspeak and butchering the English language, the next generation could be something wonderful.

    Instead we get examples like this.

    Again, no wonder not only the states but the world is going to hell on a bullet train.

    Despite the fact that I've done (all) the work on the wiki, I don't mind other people chipping in. As long as I don't have to do a lot of editing to clean up after them. Note that I'm not bashing you specifically, Harry - I'm just making a general note. I have an English degree, so I'm a bit anal about spelling and grammar, and I want the wiki to look the best it can, which is why I'm constantly making improvements and corrections. I'm hardly perfect myself; this thing is huge (92 pages and counting), so there are bound to be a few typos and such around, but I do make an effort to find and fix them when I can. All I ask is that anyone else who wishes to contribute make the same effort.

    In addition to adding Time Nomads, Dark Carnival, and Moon Fate, I've made a bunch of fixes and improvements to various other pages:

    Fixed the double-spacing on some of the pages (for some reason, some pages ignore the carriage return after a
    tag, while others don't - I can't figure out why);

    Went over all the OL pages, as well as the timelines (added links, fixed some broken links, did some minor editing);

    Reorganized the Traderisms page so that the sayings are now grouped into rough categories (I say "rough" because most of them are Miscellaneous, but it still looks a lot better now, IMO);

    Fixed some stuff on the Gateways page due to new info;

    And probably a few other things I forgot about. It never ceases to amaze me that, despite how hard I try to stay on top of things, I continue to find small errors and such that need fixing. Ah well... it keeps me on my toes.

    Well, and Kerrick also went through and added links to Kindle and Graphic Audio versions of a ton of books in The Books section, which was no small feat. I truly appreciate all the effort that you have put into the content on this site.

    Always glad to help.

    I've (finally) added Shockscape, Twilight Children, and Rider, Reaper to the wiki. I had the first two done last weekend, but I caught a serious case of apathy syndrome and put off doing the last one until today. Nothing really notable elsewhere, except for some stuff on the Gateways page (new notes and updated information).

    I've added Emerald Fire, Bloodlines, and Crossways. Among other things, I added info on the Genesis Project (which is placed under Overproject Excalibur, along with Project Janus, as they both deal with genetic research). Only one more LJ book to go...

    Interesting note, for anyone who cares: All the towns (and Turquoise Lake) that appear in Crossways are real, except for Harmony. There's a town called Yarmony, but it's about 50 miles north-northwest of Leadville, on the other side of I-70. I'm not sure if Jack Adrian or LJ came up with Harmony as Krysty's hometown (I can't be bothered to look in PtH), but it looks to be placed roughly where Quartzville is now, along Route 9.

    PTH also says that Sonja Wroth left before Krysty did and that Krysty was raised by her uncle; Crossways retcons this (Sonja left after her daughter, and Tyas wasn't mentioned at all, oddly), but I decided to leave the character entries the way they are - LJ likely did it simply to give Krysty a reason to go back to Harmony (in other words, something for the companions to do besides dropping Dean off at school).

    Oh, okay. I wasn't sure about that... I figured LJ would've been more on the ball about something that important.

    Anyway, I've added Eclipse at Noon, Stoneface, and Bitter Fruit. I'm having issues with the wiki formatting - it might just be Internet Explorer being a bitch; when I was updating today, I got a compatibility view error. Specifically, the spaces that would normally appear from using a simple carriage return (as opposed to adding a tag) aren't there anymore. I had that problem before, then it mysteriously went away; I'm not going to try fixing it, because that's far too much work - it'll probably work itself out (again).

    I added Amazon Gate, Destiny's Truth, and Damnation Road Show. Yeah, the summaries are really short, because they're kinda light on content - especially the first two. Hardly any of it actually contributed to the plot.

    I only did two books this time - Death Hunt and Shaking Earth. I added some stuff to the trivia page and fixed an error on the gateways page (mispelled Jamaisvous' name - it was "Jamaivous". Oopsie. :p).

    Three more to go, and I'm all caught up!

    Thanks. It's been a long road, but I'm finally caught up! I just added Vengeance Trail, Lost Gates, and Hell Road Warriors. I have to admit, I did a sloppy job with the last one, but it was really hard to summarize properly - there is just so much going on in that book that a summary would be nearly as long as the book itself (plus I'm just burned out ).

    There are several more books I'd really like to get my hands on, and maybe I'll order them through Amazon sometime, but right now, I'm going to take a break.

    I've added Haven's Blight and Wretched Earth.

    Ron, do you know if there's a size limit (actual or recommended) for individual pages on the wiki? The DL Enemies page, for instance, is 63.5 KB, and I keep getting IE compatibility view errors when I edit it. I know some wikis have a "soft cap" of about 30K, above which they can experience problems.

    Thanks, SA.

    I recently snagged a copy of Alpha Wave and added it to the wiki. I also noticed that the list of characters was a little out of date (i.e., missing a bunch of names), so I updated it, and fixed some entries on the DL Enemies and DL misc pages that were out of order.

    Also, someone made a comment back in July about Samantha the Panther not having an entry. I meant to find out what happened to her, but I forgot. I'll do so as soon as I can (probably this weekend; I've been a little busy lately).

    Edit: Okay, added Sam's entry as well. She remained on WW1 when Ryan and co. went up to Redoubt Bravo was killed by the Indians.

    Somehow I missed Crimson Waters (I never saw it at B&N; I suspect all the copies sold out quickly), but I did grab No Man's Land and added it to the wiki. Obviously Ricky's entry is a little sparse, but since Milan was nice enough to give us most of his backstory in NML, I was able to add at least that much.

    Since Dean has been gone for six years now, it's time to retire him - I moved his entry to the Allies page (folks who have travelled with the companions, but died or moved on). I honestly don't understand why he's still listed on the front page of every book...

    Having just finished the latest DL book, I have to say I didn't care much for it.

    It felt a lot like Pollatta's recent stuff. Lots of action, but not well choreographed. Therefore, the action, as well as the storyline, didn't engage me.

    I liked the Snake Eye character. Him knowing all about the companions and being a pretty colorful character, made his part pretty interesting. But too many side characters betwixt the two groups. I didn't care for any of them, and I got confused as to who was what. After about a 100 pages, I didn't care anymore.

    Victor Milan has proven over and over for a few decades now how he can pen a solid action/adventure. But these last two DL's have been lacking in great action sequences and fresh concepts.

    Hey, every writer I suppose can have his stinker. I'd rather have 2 or 4 GREAT DL's a year, than what I've read in the last year. In the last 6 books, there have only been 2 good ones. Chuck's Hell Road Warrior's raised the bar so friggin' high!

    It's been awhile, but I've finally added some new books. I bought Crimson Waters and Nemesis on Amazon and grabbed Chrono Spasm when it came out in stores a couple months ago, but I've been too busy working on other things to get them added until now.
