I think with today's audience who loves zombie books and comics and movies and TV shows, like The Walking Dead, this was just a matter of time.

I actually don't think it sounds bad. Something new and different for the companions to battle. (At least they ain't 'bio-weps'!)

True, but in a series that is already stagnating, i want to see some new flashy Enemies not re-hashed ideas again and again.

I agree with you. But zombies haven't been in DL before, have they?

And, depending on who is penning which issue, the series is DEFINITELY not stagnating.

Wait until you read Hellroad Warriors.

I don't believe they have been in the series yet but they are in just about every other film, comic and t.v series.
I don't mind Zombie's(in fact i've just finished a good ps3 game about them) it's just i would rather this post apoclyptic genre would stay as is.

Ermmm, sorry to tell you but...

A virulent strain of a predark biowep has been unleashed upon the denizens of northern Kansas, turning them into rotting, flesh-eating monsters.

That's from the blurb on the back of the book. It wouldn't be a Victor Milan book without a biowep!!!

You mean Pollotta. I'm disappointed that Milan has jumped on the "biowep" wagon, but I'll withhold judgment until I read it.

I think he means it as just a means as a delivery weapon. Not a Pollatta living, breathing, walking around machine

Personally, I'm excited to see zombies thrown into the mix.  "Rotties," awesome name for them too.  Kinda anxious to see how Deathlands would handle a serious class 2-3 zombie outbreak.  In speculation, Deathlanders would have a higher survival rating than pre-Skydark civilians due to the harsher environmental and societal surroundings.  All in all, I'm just hoping the writer can pull it off.  This is one of the few books I've ever gotten ecstatic to read and it better not let me down.

It's just a matter of personal taste, but I'd be much more enthused if the companions' new adversaries were "Hotties," not "Rotties."

If the current authors are looking for a truly new and dangerous mutated opponent for the companions to fight they need to consider the Snotties, who deal death via suffocating mucous bubble, or explosive sneeze (booger frag).

What does the Snottie headman say when his crew takes a break from raping and pillaging?

"If you've got 'em, eat 'em."

And people wonder why GE was relieved to see the back of me?

Upon further contemplation, I should've given Wretched Earth a 6 or 7 star review.

I haven't gotten around to ordering a copy of this one yet. After the last one I guess I am gun shy.

I can handle a 7 or 8 star review after that last mess. A half star book just didn't cut it.

I've been so busy working on my own books I wouldn't have had time to read it anyway. Got a day or twq free now so I guess I'll drop it on my Kindle.

    ie

    Aieeee!

Outstanding.  This one gets a 9.5384629 out of 10.  It's gotta be in the top 10 of all time, or top 15.

The story was very well thought out, very well written and provided numerous twists and turns.  It got even better since the author seemed to break up the story into large chunks.  He/she also tossed in quite a bit of their sly wit. The holy baseball-bat of mind blowing destruction was a nice touch. I’m not sure why the mousy guy went to talk to the quee-thingy thing, yet I was fully satisfied when he got swamped.

The story got even better with reasonable/believable dialogue appropriate to each character.  The character development efforts were truly outstanding.  No cookie cutter BS here just solid storytelling.  This is one of those stories that could be made into a movie.

I liked it, couldn’t put it down.  You will too.

I knew the fans would like Milan's zombie DL.

It surely isn't close to being as 'wretched' as the previous book. (Pun intended.)

And it is a marked improvement over Milan's last book. Really looking forward to the more exciting sounding next book of Milan's, which is this Crimson Waters. Nice cover art.

Wretched Earth has restored my faith in Deathlands. I had just about given up and was wondering why I was reading such trash. Then I decided one more time and things got good again.

I give it 8 out of 10 stars. It was pretty good.

No worries, no one really needs to reply.  I've supplied my review (see page #1); it's the only one that really counts anyway.

Curious to see how fans take this one in. Although it is far, far, farrrrrr better than Palaces of Poop, I couldn't help but feel that it didn't reach the greatness that Chuck Rogers has done with his twin entries. But I truly like Victor Milan's work, and I hope for an even bigger and better DL in his next upcoming entry, which sounds even better in scope than this one.

    Well, to me leastways!

Finished it this morning, was good. A few mention's of previous book's was good. Ryan kept on saying "Ace" a lot. A 7 star book IMHO. The Rottie's were good. I think they make another appearence in the future.

Yeah, I agree with your rating and assessment. It was above average, but had potential to be one of those storylines that could've really blew fans away.

But at least it wasn't a piece of crap like the previous one.

Oops, it was Haven's Blight I found used. I grabbed Wretched Earth at B&N. Still odd... that's the first recent book (i.e., less than 2-3 years old) that I've seen there.

As soon as I'm done with the book I'm currently reading, I'll crack open WE and give it a try.

I am about 1/3 of the way through this one and have to say that this is so far the best book victor Milan has written in the DL series.

a few small niggles, the first of which I think has been mentioned here before, is just why Mildred has never once said that the "roties"are the same as the zombies of horror fiction from her time?

Secondly Doc says he remembers Eddy Rickenbacker (WW1 flying ace) saying something to him about flying (not got the book to hand and cant recall just what) but as Doc was trawled in Nov1896 when Eddy R was six years old and powered flight was still several years off this event could never have happened. Eddy R was only introduced to flying in 1917 and only originally as a mechanic due to his automobile knowledge...

Still a damn good book so far and many, many times better thanthe last DL joke.

I haven't bought this yet, as I am still traumatized from the last new novel POL, I mean POS. And I can't bring myself to spend the $7 for a new book until the memories fade away...

Well that and I am still reading through my back log of E-bay/Amazon shipments. However I am looking forward to picking this one up.

I don't know if any of you realize it but zombies have been brought up before in the DL saga, as far back as the book Skydark. Not in such detail but I was keen to notice them being brought up in passing by Mr. AP himself.

I thought it was rather interesting.

Finished a couple of days ago...i give it a 7. Compared to the last one...well we've beat up on that one enough. I thought Wretched Earth was "pretty good", not on par with Chuck Rogers, but pretty good. I could and did put it down a few times, but the good news was I didn't regret reading it when i was done. I agree it was a well thought story and the dialog was plausable. The companions were not performing their usual super human combat but it was pretty good combat. I liked the continuity between Rotties and "those pigs up on Canada" - that tells me at least one DL author is reading other DL books. Yeah! I would have liked to see more humor. I liked the Prions explanation for what was automating the rotties and I liked how Milan solved the problem and saved Deathlands from total destruction. Or did he....
