So I read on the internet that the producers of The Walking Dead might be working on a proposed Deathlands TV series.

After thinking about that for a moment, I couldn't help but see the striking similarities betwixt the two series already.

In the walking dead, you have a post-holocaust type scenario, but instead of muties you have zombies.

Insofar as characters are concerned you have Rick who is like Ryan Cawdor, the leader of a small group struggling to survive. You have Machonne, the katana wielding black woman badass like Mildred.

Then you have the older man with one foot, the Doc of the group. Then you have Andrea, who is the token Krysty of the group. Then you have the crossbow dude, Dyrl Dixon, who is a lot like a mix of Jak and J.B. (Dixon as to 'Dix')

Then you have the Governor, who now sports an eyepatch! And runs a 'ville' of sorts, called Woodbury.

C'mon, is no one picking up on the strong similarities?

From what I can find, there seems to be a book called "Deathlands" that is about zombies, the end of the world and rescuing the president. Perhaps this is what's being optioned.

Yeah, you may be right. Perhaps it is not our beloved DL they were talking about making into a TV series or large scale movie.

if they Do make a series or a theatrical movie for deathlands...here is my choices for the companions so far. not sure about jak and dean..

    COMPANIONS

    Trader-Michael Ironside ???
    Ryan Cawdor-Vincent Spano
    Krysty Wroth-Jenya Lano
    J. B. Dix-Cliff Saunders
    Mildred Wyeth-Gina Torres
    Doc Tanner- Christopher Lloyd

if anyone saw homeward bound on syfy, if you look at cliff saunders playing J. B> and look at any of the covers with J. B. on them you'll see a STRONG resemblance.

all good choices apart from the ladies. The Krysty one not as sultry as I imagine her. And the Mildred one far too hot!!!! Welcome aboard by the way chief

Dunno who would fit the bill these days but i picture ryan as a Clint Eastwood type, circa outlaw josie wales. Granted he may have looked a bit daft with mop of black curly hair but facially at least. Kevin spacey for J.B. Not knocking you dude/dudette but aint that pretty much the original cast from the film??

    Welcome aboard

He is too fat and too mouthy by far to be J.B

I actually would tend to agree. I absolutely hated Cliff Saunders as JB in the movie. I thought he talked way to much to even attempt the role.

I'm thinking the hardest character to cast will be Jak..

But just off the top of my head:

Milton from Walking Dead - Maybe JB?
    Michonne - Mildred
Chris Lloyd - (There could be no other Doc!)

The Trader - Chuck Norris (Nuf Said!)

The Trader - Chuck Norris (Nuf Said!)

It can only be Harry Dean Stanton -LJ's favourite actor and who he based Trader on.

No, the guy from Quantum Leap is Dean Stockwell. Harry Dean Stanton was Brett in Alien, Bud in Repo Man, and Molly Ringwald's dad in Pretty in Pink. Thirty years later, he would still be the perfect Trader.

And 'ol Harry Dean had a small part in last summer's HUGE hit the Avengers movie. He was the night guard who found Bruce Banner after falling from the sky as the Hulk.

And he was a lead role actor in HBO's Big Love.

Let's not forget one of my favorites - Harry Dean Stanton as Brain in Escape from New York.

    Yeah, thats right!

    Love that movie. B-movie classic!

They are going to do a remake of that movie. I wished they'd consider getting an older, perhaps grittier Snake Plisskin by using the same actor, who is Kurt Russel and still around, able to make movies. THAT would be awesome.

I agree with you to a point.

Sometimes, but not often, Hollywood CAN make an old classic better. There are writers and directors out there that could take this franchise and create an awesome, up-to-date Escape from NY.

But it would have to be in the right hands. A great, top-of-the-line script writer and solid director could make this franchise to new levels, even out of the B-movie genre and make it as big and bold as A-list movies like Star Trek and Star Wars. (Well, the older ones, at least.)

If they could make it as good as the last Star Trek film that would be good. My missus even liked it and that say's something.

According to Wikipedia he is 86! He was also in Godfather part 2. To me he seems to nice to be the Trader at least the Trader in the later books.
