Well, with Hanging Judge coming out in less than 3 weeks, (or already have it and are enjoying the hell out of it like me!), there is only the last single cover art/synopsis for DL's End Program.

Do you have any info on the next few DL's coming out on the other end of this year? July's? September's? November's?

Haven't had time to look. Son's illness has consumed me recently. Should have time to do updates this weekend.

Totally understand that. Looking forward to both updates: your son's recovery and new and future Book covers.

Chuck Rogers posted his new cover "Blood Red Tide" on the DL facebook page.. Ryan umm looks.. different. GE really dropped the ball on their new logo.. DL Daisy Silhouettes?

    Ugg.

It also doesn't look like Seeley is doing the art anymore.

Managed to track it down, looks not bad apart from the daisies. Wonder who the new artist is? Just wish we could get a release date for this one. A Chuck DL novel is like finding Eva Mendes in your bed.

Confirmed by the man himself Dave Seeley that he is no longer doing DL covers.

    Thanks for the link.

Dont like it. The daisy looks stupid hanging off of the end, it should be where it always has been -within the cover art itself. Ryan is coming up on 40 something, not 22 and has a far more prominent scar on his face than the shaving cut this fool has. Its all just too "Hollywood teen Vampire" for me.

I'm not on Facebook (work security reasons??) but the woman that said Ryan WAS based on Snake Pliskin is wrong, he wasn't as I've explained several times on here over the years.

I wonder if the OL covers will go the same way?

Well, it seems May's DL Desolation Angels just might be Dave Sealy's last book cover. Ron, do you know the author for this one?

The new one is not bad, but just too exact image of Kurt Russel and his Snake Plisskin character. Ryan had curly long hair, and has a bit more rangy musculature. As I've said recently, Michael Herring was the best cover artist. He had these characters down, exactly like they were described by Laurence James and mentally pictured in my reader's mind.

The whole cover design looks slightly different. The logo is not placed in the same spot, now it is dead center. The daisy thing is weird, and should at least be colored yellow instead of plain white.

Overall, the artwork looks very similar to Seely. It is not bad. Perhaps this new artist will get better as they go along. I wonder who this latest cover artist is? Any idea Ron?

I don't have time tonight. But now that my son is finally home resting and recovering from his surgery, I should be able to catch up on website content over the next few days. I'll get covers updated as soon as possible.

And yeah, I'm sad that Dave Seeley is no longer doing the covers. Michael Herring was a tough act to follow, and I think Seeley really stepped up and did some great work. I'm not so much a fan of the newest cover, and definitely don't like having the daisies added to the logo. Maybe it will grow on me over time, but my first response was probably not what they were going for.

Who does the covers for Outlanders? They are always interesting and colourful. Maybe they should hire that person. I agree the "Ryan" is too young looking on the new cover.

Confirmed by Mr. Seeley himself that Gold Eagle terminated his contract and Desolation Angels will be his last cover for them.

First thing he said when I sent him the picture was about the model.. and the words "Snake" and "Pliskin" did come into play lol.

I thought Lawrence James did base the look of Ryan Cawdor on Snake Pliskin? (But not the actual character) I thought I read that on an OLD forum posting.. Shrug.

First thing I thought of was Keanu Reeves, not Snake/Kurt. At least they got the scar on the right side...

But... my god, what is up with that title placement, and the flowers??

I wonder if the artist got Ryan and Dean confused? By now Dean could look like that without the scar and eye patch .
Its too bad that the daisy is not part of the scene like it always has been.

Yeah, Seely had some very cool covers.

Never even thought of the Dean angle. If it wasn't for the eyepatch, you might just be right.

Maybe Dean Cawdor in the future turns into Kurt Russel's Snake Plisskin.

Ryan was born on 15th January 2069 - I was told this in a letter from Laurence years ago. I'm sure we are told in red equinox that he is 35 so by now he will be just over 40ish??

    Interesting tidbit Jim.

I wonder just how many years have passed now since book 1? We are at nearly 120 books now right?

DL's Hanging Judge really took me back to the original author's feel and take on the characters and the devastated world, along with several memorable bad guys and a 'different' love for Jak.

It is rare that I would like to read a book twice, but Hanging Judge, for me, was that entertaining and well written. All the companions had their 'time in the light' and were showcased so well. Much more dramatic than just the usual companions kicking ass and moving on. It was just nice to have the companions argue, but sound and act like old school companions we've always known, instead of shadows of themselves.

Yeah I would think so because Dean is about 15? and i'm guessing Ryan had him about 25 although this just my guest work.

    Dean was born around 2086

Some time in Jan 2096 they find the first gateway in PTH

Aug 2098 Dark carnival is set, the group appear to be stuck in a miss jump loop that lasts around 8 months of real time.

    July 2098 Rider, reaper

    April 2099 Eclipse at noon

things get a little blury from here as LJ stops writing the books and the time line goes to pot. I'm guessing its now some time in 2104 -2105 if dean was 18 when we last met up with him in book 100.

So he is probably about 18 or 19, Ryan had him at 22# or over makes him in his 40s so the new image is looking wrong age wise.

According to the timeline (which may or may not be accurate):

    * Dean was born in 2087.
    * Dark Carnival takes place in 2097.
    * Prodigal's Return takes place in 2102 (Wordsmith told me Dean's 14 in that book, so I extrapolated). I'm guessing it's somewhere around 2103, if we assume 3-4 books/DL year

Since Ryan was born in 2069, that would make him 34(ish). I know he's older than that, though - he's got to be pushing 40. Krysty's 29, JB is 47(!), and Jak is around 21.

JB is five years older than Ryan give or take a few months.

I'm not sure where all the hate for this new cover is coming from. I thought it was pretty cool. I do agree that Ryan looks a little off, though. As for the daisy becoming a part of the logo, I dunno. I think it looks nice, but I also kinda think it's a lazy way to incorporate the flowers.

Not so much hate, maybe just concern from us grumpy old DL fans. The Daisies just look plain tacky. Maybe GE thought a revamp was in order. They seem to be letting little changes come in, which for us fans can only be a good thing i.e. Krysty Wroth's spiffing new Glock.

Jim: The wiki timeline is based on that one; I only changed things if I could confirm them. That one lists Ryan being born in 2061, which would make him 40ish. I seem to recall some of the early books saying he was in his mid-30s, so that sounds about right. I dunno. Maybe we should ask Wordsmith what year it is - she does keep track.

My DOB for Ryan comes direct from the horses mouth so kind of makes it canon does it not?

It is... but what I meant is that Chris' timeline says he was born in 2061, not 2069.

And... if we can nail down roughly what year it is NOW, we can figure out Ryan's real age (hence, asking Wordsmith).

I wonder if Wordsmith can shed a little light on why the cover art style is being changed . I hope somebody can because after seeing what the new art looks like I really hope it is just a one off to test our reaction and then a quick retreat to the old tested and liked/loved cover style. I too love playing the where did they hide the daisy this time game. I hope it goes back into the artwork and out of the title.
