Can someone make a list of the basic characteristics of the different Muties?

I know there are Stickies with suction cup fingers, Swampies with dual circulatory systems.

What was unique about hte muties at the Alaskan Redoubt?

It's been established for nearly 15 years that almost all of the humanoid mutants (at least those whose genus ends in "ie") were the product of genetic engineering.

There were" Stinkies" who smelled bad.
    "Snotties" with runny noses.
    "Scabbies" with lots of scabs.
    "Pukies" who puked a lot.
"Farties" who...well, you get the picture.

So aside from smelling bad tell me more about the Stinkies

And so on for the Snotties, Scabbies, Pukies, and Farties...

For example the Swampies had dual circulatory systems. This made them really tough.

Stickies could climb anything and pull flesh off an opponant.

    By who?

    Oh, various and sundry.

Mainly elements of the Totality Concept, such as Overproject Excalibur, Mission Invictus, so forth and so on.

The full story didn't come out until the Outlanders series began, although there were hints in some DL books.

The "real" story of the swampies was revealed in the OL novel, Shadow Scourge.

and their unique characteristics would be, well ermmm...

I forgot it has a different meaning over your side of the pond

So for all you folk out there who are not English

    Fanny = Vagina not Arse.

And you go all the way to Nigeria and bump into someone from Ormskirk...

Thats about 15 miles up the road from me !

No need to get nasty geeze. I didn't know that list existed. and I listened to 5 in audio book format So it is not exactly easy to go find the description again. I obviously have never seen that list or I wouldn't have asked.

I wasn't getting nasty. I only noted that it it is polite to say please when asking for something from others -at least it was the way I was brought up by my parents?

But you now have your question answered. That link is to a page from the old Deathlands website that was run by another long time poster here called "Outlanders". He gave up updating the site when the books dropped off in quality. Check it out it may answer a lot of questions you may have about the early DL books.

Another Question Is why create these Muties? What is trying to be accomplished? They seem to just make life more dangerous. Does someone control them?

That question does not seem to be answered on that page. As well as the info on the totality concept seems to be just stubs with no info in them. is there a place where I can see a overview of the Totality Concept?

I'm not being harsh here or trying to pick but your asking questions that are answered in books you have not even read yet! Why do you want all the answers before you read the books? We (those that choose to answer your questions) asked those same questions many years ago but had to wait for each up and coming book in the hope that some of our questions may get answered.

Why not hunt down the books and enjoy the secrets as you read them and they unfold?

Many of the mutants were actually the product of genetic engineering carried out by secret subsections of the Totality Concept. Most being humanoids adapted to survive in a post holocaust environment.

Some are more dangerous than there creators ever hoped.

Some were tests for Bio Weapons hence them being highly agressive and hard to control.

The Stickies for example are believed to have been introduced to Deathlands by Magus (Pilgrimage to Hell).

Lord Kaa raises and controls a large Mutie army in book #36 Skydark.

Many of the unanswered questions are resolved in the follow on series Outlanders.

Because I am gathering info to run a gurps game for some friends who enjoy the series. And while i am in the process of listening to the books on Audiobook. having the info spread over 94 books and however many are in the Outlands books will not be all that conducive to running.

I am trying to get a feel for what the Totality concept is up to and what are they doing? Are they a force for good? evil? Did they cause the war?

So yes I do intend on reading them all. But I do not want to wait years to run the game.

This stuff is a start but I am curious about what are all the peaces about?

Do they ever answer what the fog with claws was? Is the Totality Concept still running?

The Totality Concept itself was not good or evil...it didn't exactly cause the global holocaust but some branches of it knew Armageddon was coming and took no measures to stop it.

The fog with claws was a forcefield with particles of anti-matter mixed in the energy matrix. The last time it was activated was in the OL novel, Children of the Serpent.

Isolated remanants of various Totality Concept divisions are still around in DL's time but by the time of OL, they had all been absorbed into the Unification Program.

    The Totality Concept

    Overproject Whisper       - which encompasses:

Project Cerberus – The development of the Mat-Trans Units. HQ Redoubt Bravo or Cerberus Redoubt.

Operation Chronos – The further development of the Mat-Trans units to allow “Time Trawling” –Doc Tanner was the only successful candidate of this project.

Enterprise Eternity – The search for immortality

Project Genesis – Various Genetic Engineering experiments –Muties ?

There is also reference to the Soviets having a similar project called Project Szvezda, but nothing much is known about it.

I know there is more but I don't have the time to go through all the books for you. I guess as you are looking for all this information you must be the GM for your group, so why not make up your own projects for the players to find. I’m guessing they too have not read the books so use artistic license and a little imagination to bring your own ideas to light.

Have you checked out another RPG called "The Morrow Project" a post holocaust RPG that is ideal for Deathlands RPG's.

    Morrow Project (Timeline LTD.)

or another called AFTERMATH! by FGU

    AFTERMATH!

Also please check your PM's here

I intend to modify stuff and make stuff up. But having a basic framework to steal from is helpful . Good Writers barrow. Great Writers Steal.

Didn't the Sioux (SP?) in book one come through the Mat Trans? or were they Muties that Doc Tanner called Sioux? It seemed the there was a bunch of them after Trader walked away.

Do the various branches of the Totality Concept know what the others are doing? Or does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing?

What part was Crater Lake attached to?

I don't think the Sioux would much appreciate being called muties. Heck, a fair number of them doing even like being called Sioux - as I recall it is a bastardized shortening of an epithet from another native american tribe describing them as "rattlesnakes".

The Sioux were the Lakota. They lived in the vicinity.

Didn't the Sioux (SP?) in book one come through the Mat Trans? or were they Muties that Doc Tanner called Sioux? It seemed the there was a bunch of them after Trader walked away.

I can recall some Samurai warriors coming through the Mat Trans over the course of several books ending with Keepers of the Sun when the group jump to what is left of Japan.

What part was Crater Lake attached to?

I think they were not linked to TC -I think they were called WISPA or some such. I will get the book out tomorrow and check.

Perhaps the suckers on their hands operate as tiny mouths, drawing in precious fluids from the blood of their victims.

I don't have the book handy but I think in Stoneface Ryan sees some different kinds of stickies in the Anthill's bioengineering section.

To answer the first question (muties):

I've got information on several different types: stickies, scalies, swampies, greenies (they're in Gemini Rising, and appear to come from Washington Hole), trackies (Chill Factor), and troggies (Northstar Rising).

Re: the TC: As Jax mentioned in the other thread you started, there isn't a whole lot of information on the TC as a whole - most of the authors just made up individual operations and projects without worrying about where they actually fit in, because they were assumed to be self-contained (Operation Rat King, for example). Here's what I've got from the DL books:

    Project Cerberus

    Operation Chronos

Operation Rat King (a bio-computer designed to run nuclear war simulations)

    Project Calypso (a super-soldier program)

Project Eurydice (weapons research; Crater Lake)

    Project Genesis (the vampires)

Project Janus (I made up the name, but the project is about cloning - it's in Genesis Echo)

Project Styx (weapons research, probably where they came up with the sec hunter droids - Chill Factor).

If you want information on any or all of the above, I can post it or PM you.

That's okay...just a spur-of-the-moment (and somewhat tasteless) comment about another kind of mutie.

    Speaking of which...

The overview of genetic engineering responsible for most Axlerverse human mutations--and some animal ones--isn't really all that complicated.

You're just going to have accept that searching through DL for the final key to it and the Totality Concept is futile...you'll have to set your sights a hundred years in the future to Outlanders.

That's where it's all laid out--pretty much which Totality Concept division did what and why.
