The people of the Deathlands are masters at scavenging and clever at turning the remains of our world into stuff they can use--we've seen that throughout the series.  But, as history's shown, humans don't just survive, they live.  And they can't resist personal decor.

So if you were one of the Companions, or wandering in Deathlands yourself, what sort of apocalyptic Deathland bling would you make--using the ruined bits and bobs of our world?  For yourself, your friends, or your lover?  What sort of Deathland bling do you think the Companions would wear?

    For me, I think:

Ryan:  a  cuff made up of bullet casings

Krysty: a chandelier glass drop pendant

JB:  a cuff made up of bolts

Mildred:  a domino pendant (the blank side facing out and scrimshawed with something delicate and symbolic like a flying sparrow)

Doc:  a coin ring (the band kind that soldiers in POW camps used to make, one that reminded him of home)

Jak:  a woven choker with teeth or claws and the circular metal ends of shotgun shell casings

Maybe for myself, a combo bracelet with bullet casings, beads, and computer circuitry parts.

What do you think would be some cool Deathland bling?

Not to shoot down your idea for people in general, I think lots of people do wear things that have meaning to them. In the case of the companions though it has been shown that they travel light ,carrying only those things that help them to survive , things like ammo, food ,meds, weapons and warm clothes. In my opinion I don't think that the companions feel the need to dress up in bling .

The good companions are "blinged" already...

Ryan -silk scarf with silver dollar weights
    JB -Fedora
    Doc - frock coat
Jak - cut-off jacket with razor blades
    Krysty -bear skin coat
    Mildred - head beads
Dean -small knife with jewelled handle

Tricking oneself out definitely it is not a good idea in the Deathlands. Wearing any type of (ugh) "bling" is basically saying, " Come kill me and take this".

Not bling like our day, Deathland bling--like how Ryan is shown wearing bullets openly (noted in the book as marking him as a wealthy man and a damn good killer in order to be able to flaunt that kind of 'wealth'). British Bloke showed some of the bling they wear--beads in Mildred's hair, Ryan's scarf, etc. People have done little bits like this in every country in every condition, even in war. It's what makes humans feel like they are doing more than just surviving, that they are living. And if you grew up with the Deathlands being the 'normal way' of life, you would consider it living--where people like us, who knew a different softer world, would probably always consider it merely surviving.
