    So, Deathlands has been around for quite awhile now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's dying to see some sort of illustrated book. 

    The one thing that I love about this series is the graphic detail, which makes it very easy to become engrossed while reading. It's about time - actually, if you ask me, it's LONG OVERDUE - that someone made an illustrated book.  Hell, you could call it the Deathlands Encyclopedia A-Z, and cover all the significant characters over the series - from friends/allies of the main group to the many barons/villains that have fallen at the hands of the band.

    If I could draw more than simple stick figures, I would consider it!!! But I feel it needs to be done, and wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it ever came out.

    Another idea, which I distinctly remember from reading the original Hardy Boys, is to put the occasional illustration throughout each book.  I don't know if this has ever been discussed, but I think it would help expand readership if there were illustrations.  It wouldn't even have to be in colour - although that would be ideal (the fold-out pic from Pilgramage was AWESOME) - black and white would be quite alright.  It would be pretty sick to see an illustration of Jak burying one of his knives into some chooch's eyeball, or Ryan opening some deadbeat from ear-to-ear with a swipe of his trusty panga. 

    For the record, I'm not some demented sicko, and I'm sure that the graphic descriptions in the series have drawn more than just myself to Deathlands.

    I think an illustrated encyclopedia would be an interesting idea. Earlier this year Gold Eagle licensed a few properties to comics publisher IDW, and while I didn't read the Executioner comic (just not my thing), I did really enjoy the Rogue Angel comic. I don't know if those were successful enough to warrant more, but I know that both Deathlands and Outlanders were at least discussed as possible other franchises to bring into the comics world.

    Talking about a partially illustrated book made me think of a paperback I used to have from the mid-70's, Weird Heroes #7 Quest of the Gypsy: Eye of the Vulture (I just had to go look it up). The story was by Ron Goulart (great writer if you dig dark humor and sci-fi), and it had comic book style illustrations sprinkled throughout the text. Not enough to be a kid's picture book, just enough to spice up the reading. I remember really liking it, but then again I was around ten years old at the time....

    Good idea i all ways whated a book full of the cover art  just so of the covers are so well do i think they could sell a lot of them.

    I have to agree that an encyclopedia would be great. I dont know if they exist but Illustrations by axler him self would be awsome.

    I can't speak for all the writers but I know for certain that Laurence James (the author that penned the first 30 odd Deathlands books) never had a thought to illustrate any of his books –I believe his artistic talent ran to “stick figures at best” (his own words).

     

    I did ask Laurence once about a DL encyclopaedia or guide book and he had a positive view of the idea, however Gold Eagle had other views and told me that it was not the kind of title they would produce and not one that (I guess in there own opinion) a majority of fans would want either. I guess now however if GE can produce comic books they could, if they wished, produce a DL/OL A-Z or guide. Just how accurate and erudite it would be though is anyone’s guess?

    yes by axler I did mean laurence james.

    too bad his artistic talent ran as high as mine but still who needs to make stick figures when you can make worlds with your words.

    GE doesn't produce comic books--they licensed the Executioner and Rogue Angel to IDW who produced a couple of abortive mini-series. According to the "main" Axler, Mark Ellis IDW doesn't intend to doing any other GE related comic books--not in the foreseeable future at least.

    I like the way Nomad thinks.Graphic detail is a must in DL's books.After all its a post nuclear world where nothing is easy.Ryan and the group try to take the high road so say for the most part.But like we all know they are stone cold killers.They have to be and we would be if it was us there.Maybe thats the lure.

    i'm in the gun business and i was thinking one day of puting together a picture title of some sort of all the real existing weapons used by the main characters.....sort of a reference for anyone getting itn othe series..not many have seen a real LeMat pistol for example..and they are fascinating to examine...humm....

    Thats a good idea. I'm sure folks would like to see them, but still would like a book of the cover art. Time to search the web.
