Hello. My name is Shawn or SP as my forum handle goes.

I have been reading the Deathlands series since I was 19, I am now 40. Hard to believe It never occured to me there may be a forum for DL fanboys. So I am ecstatic to find you all. I didn't see any rules discouraging an introduction thread so I felt it proper to introduce myself.

I had up to 70 of the series at one time but sold them all for some unknown reason and against better judgement. I am currently back up to around 50 of them reaqiring through e-bay and my local used book store.. It's a long process but it's rewarding to see them start to fill the shelves again. Anyhow I thought I would say "Hi" as I personally hate it when someone new joins a few forums I am a part of and just rabidly posts with no-one having a clue where to hell they came from.

I have a letter from 1993 from Laurence James And a sighned cover of Shockscape that he sent me after I asked a question about the series all that time ago. I may take a pic and show it off a little later. As he was my favorite author of the series.

Really looking forward to Engaging in some conversations and glad to be among other Deatlanders.

    Regards,

    Shawn

Hey, SP. I am similar to you in a way. I started reading Deathlands at 15 and am now 31 and I started collecting but then sold but now have the whole collection( at least up until lets see let me look at my shelf......Lost Gates, uh ohh, a trip to Amazon.com is in order for Havens Blight and Hell Road Warriors.) Anyway, DIEE HARDDD Deathlands fan, good to have you here and that is cool that Mr. James sent you that signed book( Good book with great artwork.) What is your favorite and least favorite DL books. My least favorite is a toss up between Demons of Eden(I am going to get crap for this one, SP, WATCH, but too fantasy for me and Shaking Earth, if there ever was a boring DL book, but I still like these two, but they are my least. My favorite is Bloodlines, its just because where I was at and the atmosphere really eerily went with the book and I am also a Stephen King fan and let me just say. Mr. James has been known to creep me out more than Stephen King. (Two other spooky scenarios were Road Wars the hermit in that town was wild and the creatures in Twighlight Children would have been perfect in Mr. Kings The Mist. Anyway glad to have you.  And by the way, let me test you just for fun trivia see how much you know hey quiz me too. ( I have not read about 45-50 Dl titles you can probably get me on a lot of stuff I love this site. Thank you Mr. James, Mr. Miles, Mr. Ellis, and Mr.Philipson anyway here is my fun trivia HAHA!! : who is Joseph Jordan? Cort Strasser? Gert Wolfram?

It is peculiar that you would mention the similarities in Steven Kings writing with that of Laurence James. As that was my question that he respoded to me about as I asked him if he used Steven Kings references and Idea's from in his books and He says he had from the beginning. Myself being a huge fan of Kings and living in the same city I practically grew up and around him my whole life.

On a side note I used to cook for S. King a few times a week at a local pub I worked at in down town Bangor Maine.'

I guess I'll have to post the letter as it strikes me as quite a coincidence that you would mention it.

I'll answer your other questions a little later, and thanks!

Well Cort Strasser is infamously sadistic and Doc's tormentor of course. Also well know for slitting his own throat while sinking in quicksand if I recall correctly. The other 2 I remember but dis-recall what books they were in right now. Gert stands out to me a little more though...

You use to cook for S King!? Cool!!  We will not discuss S King novels as this is a James Axler site( I knew there was some sort of influence) but may I ask what your favorite S King STORY and well scary novel and then will drop mr King and discuss DL. Story wise mine is Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and scary was Carrie.

I no-longer have the book, but it had a story along the lines of toy army men and helicopters that creamed a dude in his apartment with a reanimated toy helicopter with a nuclear missle. For some reason it made my skin crawl.
