OK, so after coming back to the site after too long and being far to lazy to look thorugh old posts, I have a quick couple of questions relating to semi-recent DL books.

First - I can understand there might be a few trade mark issues but I'm suprised Thunder Road was not called DARK KNIGHT after reading it ! Especially a DL favourite catch-word ! (maybe DC would have had a few problems with it though)

Second, after recently finishing Plague Lords it seemed to me that the writer seemed to be having a pop at the whole genre of the DL series. Page 54 and 260 I think. Was the writer getting annoyed and hacked off, merely bored of the series or relating his own experiences ?

Thridly  - it seems to me either far too irregular or far too long since the group travelled further than USA/South America. I mean, surely NATO would have had enough of them along with the US ?  Are you guys over the pond not getting slightly bored of the same old US locations ? The world does exist outside of USA/Canada you know even in the DL world - Yeah I know its a USA/Can series, but that's my two pennies worth !! And food for thought !!

Fourth - who does everyone feel would win a fight between Rayn and Kane ?

Lastly, as for naming children after characters in DL/Outlanders - 'fraid I did it with my son Kane !!

As a matter of fact, the author of those books (Alan Philipson)  has been posting here on the board rather frequently of late, you can see his posts under the username AP.  Daniel Desipio was definitely a semi-autobiographical character, although to my knowledge Alan has never personally slaughtered an entire villiage by being a plague vector.  Which is not to say he never seriously considered it.  The esteemed Mr. Desipio's love/hate relationship with being a writer-for-hire on a trashy pulp series definitely comes from hard personal experience.

By the way, if you enjoyed those two books then you might be interested in knowing that Alan is currently serializing a new novel online, which you can read over at http://www.SlaughterRealms.com.  I know he would enjoy hearing your feedback.  The next chapter goes up tonight, and it features Vikings, spaceships, rampaging (and pooping) dinosaurs, and of course the slaughter of innocents.  Good stuff.

If you pick your way through the whole DL series you will find that there is the odd occasion where the Gang finds themselves out of their "US comfort zone" I went back to read a few books I needed to catch up on and in Emerald Fire they are in the rain forests of South America. Then there are the latest 2 books to see the Gang travel elsewhere, maybe not willing ly.... Apocolypse Unborn, not sure if they traveled into foreign waters but they werent on mainland. Heck the second book of the series deals with Alaska/Russia. So they make their way around, but it is to be expected that the Redoubts are american built, so the majority will be in the USA.
I think throwing 1 book into every 10, where they travel out of country is good, it allows the novelty to remain intact.

Oh and about naming your kids after characters.. my sons name is Jak!!

    Ryan would win.No contest.

That is really cool about all you guy's on here having sons to name after Death lands/Outlanders characters.

I am 36,divorced and have no child, but if I ever do have the son I want I would name him after my fictional hero,Ryan(or my real life hero,Leonidas of Sparta)How about Ryan Leonidas?haha
