Dude, that's pretty cool. =) Watching a shuttle launch is one of the things I would like to do before the dark reaper takes me. =)

There are only six launches left in the program before the shuttles are retired. You'd best get planning.

I lived in Florida for most of the 90's.  Attending a shuttle launch is one of the many things I regret not doing before I left.  We don't get that kind of action in Oklahoma...lol

Damn, well guess that's not going to happen then. =( Ah well, hopefully the next generation of surface to space vehicles will be more spectacular.

Based on a short video they ran last night, apparently the next program is largely similar to the Apollo program and is even built with much of the same technology. There is a smaller launch vehicle that sends up an Apollo style capsule that can hold 4 astronauts, and then there is a much larger launch vehicle that can send up cargo plus a lunar module. It looks like a pretty solid design, but neither of the launch vehicles look quite as large as the shuttle with its external tank and boosters.

Very cool!  I have to admit that's something I would love to do as well but doubt I'll ever get the chance.

How about writing a story about the last surviving shuttles blasting off on a one way mission ; never to return to the earth again. ;;; Lost_Traveler

i was fortunate enough to watch a shuttle launch a long time ago...definately the definition of POWER....between that and a Top Fuel dragster lighting off 50 feet away...both are awe inspiring experiences...
