Ok, I suppose I'll kick off the topic of what weapons I'd carry in Deathlands..... First thing's first, I'd have to carry more than 2 firearms. Long blaster would be a scoped Remington 700, chambered for .308win. I love my .270win, but .308 rounds would be more plentiful. For lack of adequate ammunition, I have also ruled out a Weatherby Mark V, chambered for .460 Weatherby mag. Next would be a Remington 1100 autoloading 12 guage with a 21" open sight barrel and loaded with 00 buckshot and/or 2-3/4" sluggers. It would have a 10 round mag extension.... Hand blasters would be my Taurus PT809 9mm.. 17 in the mag and 1 in the chamber and either a .357 magnum Smith&Wesson 386XL Hunter or a Taurus 4510 Judge, chambered for a .410 shotgun round. I have a knife I picked up as a novelty at a truck stop which I can not identify. Pakistan is stamped on the blade, but it's otherwise free of ID marks. 12" blade with a serrated spine. It's no Panga, but I'm certain it'll take the head off a sticky with ease.... That's it for me, folks.. Let's get a good discussion going about this!!!

Can I be in your traveling band? I would add my Ruger Mini 14 with a 30 round clip to our stockpile along with a .44 python to the lot along with a compliment of frag and HE grens. I would dress in long lasting/wearing jeans and a camo t-shirt with steel toe boots from the army depot and a web belt to carry a long knife and a canteen and plenty of ammo pouches and a gerber knife with all the attachments

Deathlands Arms... Sounds like a pub to me and a darn better idea than talking about the age old "What guns topic"... I doubt you will get many more repiles (other than this one) from the older members here.

As much as I like my Glock and AR-10, I suppose revolvers and
controlled feed type bolt action rifles would make more sense if one
were going to have to make do with questionable ammo and reload rounds
with components cannibalized from whatever can be found.
To detractors of this discussion: your hoplophobia will serve you
poorly when you wake up one night to find zombies chewing on your
appendages and taping Matlock reruns over your VHS collection.

I don't suffer from hoplophobia, what I do suffer is a constant rehash of pointless posts made by new members who: arrive think they have come up with a topic NEVER thought of before fail to check if the subject has been played to death here already post never post again OR start a flame war when they get told its old news

I didn't really expect my coment to be taken with such frampold seriousness. Perhaps I should be flattered.
With the exception of new releases, which aren't exactly universally well liked, I believe that it would be difficult to find an Axler related subject that hasn't been discussed at some point in the history of the JA forums. Without new people, the forums become rather sleepy (you've seen this). Few new people are going to stick around if they are discouraged from discussing almost all relevant topics because they have already been discussed back in the days of wooden ships and iron men and thus have been "played to death".
One of the most "played to death" topics on these forums is your continuing effort to suppress discussions that don't personally interest you and chase off new people. If you are having trouble remembering, I will be happy to research past threads and provide some examples of this and how well those discussions went for you.
I could see this debate taking place out in the general forums. I wouldn't agree with it but I could see it; but this is a separate group devoted entirely to the topics you are trying to suppress. The reason this group exists is take topics like this off the general forum to avoid discussions like this. You have to go out of your way to bring up this group and read this. If you don't like it, why bother clicking on this group?
Here is the subject of this group:
What weapons would you carry? How many people would be in your group? How would you dress? How would your team dress? Be very specific down to the last detail. What would be your M.O? How would you try to survive?
WHAT ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH DO YOU EXPECT TO SEE POSTED HERE?
I have no interest in flame wars. I have better things to do. I do take issue when someone goes out of their way to go to a group dedicated to specific topics and suggests that those topics should not be discussed there. Until the proprietor of this site tells me that you are empowered to tell others what they can and cannot discuss, I will continue to take issue with this.
A lot of topics are discussed that don't interest me. When I see that, I am pleased that people have found a topic that interests them and that they are enjoying themselves discussing it. Even though it doesn't interest me, I am happy for them.

I didn't really expect my coment to be taken with such frampold seriousness. Perhaps I should be flattered. I do enjoy your use of the English language; it makes a pleasant change to read here words that most likely have not seen the light of day in years. I agree totally with you, yes there are few subjects that have not been broached before here in all the incarnations of the board and it is wrong for me to chastise those new posters for regurgitating age old topics. HOWEVER if you look at the age of the post in question AND the number of posts its author have contributed to the board you will hopefully understand the reason for my reply. I may be making a generalisation here but as a member that has been around these boards since there inception many, many years ago I have seen such posts used as a catalyst for the onset of a flame war. The author posts this and only this since November and despite stating “Let's get a good discussion going about this!!!” has never returned to add to it. The first post in reply comes from yet another one post wonder… Can you see my point? If you are having trouble remembering, I will be happy to research past threads and provide some examples of this and how well those discussions went for you. No, you have no need to expend your time and effort on my behalf; I recall almost all of the topics that have gone on here and there outcome. I do not continually try to suppress discussion in fact I am one for getting involved in it BUT only if it’s a worthy topic and not one that smacks of “smoke”. I could see this debate taking place out in the general forums. I wouldn't agree with it but I could see it; but this is a separate group devoted entirely to the topics you are trying to suppress. This is my mistake; I repeat THIS IS MY FAULT. I replied to this topic in such a way not realising it was a reply to a GROUP posting. So, excuse me and go ahead and talk guns and stuff all you want… I have no interest in flame wars. I have better things to do. So do I, in fact I have a large bag of gravel out back that needs sorting into equal size mounds. I would sooner do that than get locked into a flame war on any board let alone this one.

Indeed it is sad to compare the English language as it was to what it has evolved into (at least in the US, perhaps it isn't as bad there).

Can you see my point?
Yes. I've seen a couple problem children that were making it a serious flame war catalyst and I believe you that there were more before I came around. Perhaps the same ones have been around for a long time coming back again and again under different names. I don't think the one who started up the discussion on this group was trying to start a flame war.
Aside from that, I think I may see the difference in perspective position. There are topics people bring up that are for gathering information, seeking to understand things or answer questions, or seeking general consensus on topics. On these types of issues someone should research past threads before posting. Newcomers do frequently fail to do this. Someone who does not have an interest in the topic in question would probably believe it to fall into the above mentioned category. The truth is, you will find more consensus and agreement in a pub full of people who each favor a different football team than in a discussion about weapons, including DL related weapons. It is one of those things where the debate never really ends and anyone interested will want to discuss it himself. I do believe that such discussions should be diverted from the forums to one of these groups; not because it isn't a relevant topic, LJ always went into great detail about the team's weapons and they are used rather frequently in DL novels, but because the discussions go on and on. If you get bored, I would certainly like to see your thoughts on "What if you were in the Deathlands"'

First, Thank you for not taking off in another pointless attack as many have done here in reply to my replies -Hmmm... I have to agree with you in all you say above. As for "What if you were in the Deathlands"'... I would be long time dead, I was born in 1964 and thus a little ore than my 3 score and 10 a long time before... However... If I ever got the chance to add a character to DL then I would make him look like this... Donald McLeod Sex: Male Age: 33 Height: 6’ 5” Weight: 245 lbs Hair: Fair (Worn Long) Eyes: Brown Distinguishing Features: None Place of Birth: Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye, Scotland Known Relatives: Dougal McLeod –Father (Alive), Flora McLeod (Nee Harris) –Mother (Alive), Hamish McLeod –Brother (Died at birth), Morag McLeod –Sister (Alive). Favorite Quote: Ye no trust a Campbell Clothing: McLeod Tartan Kilt, British Army Khaki shirt, black Para boots Preferred Weapons: Claymore, Sgian Dubh, Enfield SA-80, Webley .455 revolver Commonly Carried Equipment: Backpack, Spare Ammo, Book ‘The Word of God’, Compass, Pocket Rad Counter, Hunting equipment (Snares etc.), Remains of the ‘Faerie Flag’, Weapon cleaning Kit. Special Skills: Hunting, Survival Techniques, Clan History, Close quarters Combat, First Aid Home History: The Isle of Skye, located off the north west coast of Scotland, was mostly untouched by the global catastrophe of 2001. However in the years after the war the Nuclear Winter that followed and the heavy fallout from the mainland killed almost seventy five percent of all life on the small island. Those that survived faced freezing temperatures and starvation almost daily and if it were not for the family that lived in the castle all would have been lost. The Chief of the Clan McLeod and his family lived out the worst years in the Luxury of there castle, food was plentiful thanks to the huge amounts of supplies stored in a secret Army supply depot built within the Cuillin Mountains not far from there home. These mountains were owned by the Family, but leased to the British Army in 2000 in order to raise funds for the restoration of the castle at Dunvegan. As time passed the Island and its survivors slowly returned to a way of life similar to that in the Highlands during the 14th and 15th Centaury. The freezing winds that blew in from the North (sometimes cold enough to freeze a man caught out in the open in minutes) and the mutant Seabirds that attacked anything on sight made the hard life that much harder. Life History: Donald as direct Heir to the family title longed for the time when he would be able to take control and bring change to the way of life dealt to those that live outside the Castle. On many an occasion he has sneaked into the depot unbeknown to his father in order to hand out extra rations to those who were sick, or with small children. It was during one of these forays into a new area of the complex that Donald stumbled upon the Gateway located deep within the complex. Not knowing what it was or infact what any of the computer hardware was he entered the Mat-Trans and awoke elsewhere. Afraid, confused and alone he stumbled into a new world, the ‘magic room’ did not send him to sleep when he entered it again, so he was trapped in his nightmare that would not end. He is forced now to wander the Deathlands with a hope of someday finding the means to return him back to the life he knew and the people he wants to save. Five years on from the start of the nightmare he has adapted and survived all that Deathlands could throw at him, and is still searching for another ‘magic room’. I will leave you to guess what my Family name is and where my Grandfather hailed from...
