Getting hold of Axler books at reasonable prices can be difficult in the UK, so I was please to find this and "Neutron Solstice" in a local car boot sale recently.

Just finished "Ice and Fire" and enjoyed it alot. Felt even more like a Western than usual. In fact Rick even comments about the similarity to Yojimbo/Fistfull of Dollars.

Little differences are interesting compared to the recent books I'd read previously. Doc is more confused, Kyrsty's hair is more animated and there's a couple of band members I hadn't encountered before. Thought the snake cult and the Hell's Angels were good elements, the latter even a bit humourous. Cockroach infestation was very well conveyed.

It's a great read, shown by the fact I read it in about a week whilst commuting, which is quite fast for me!

Hey welcome to the board, where in the UK do you hail from?

The early DL books had a lot of extra crew that left for one reason or another (usually killed) by the time Laurence got to book 12 or so. His books also had continuity as each book picked up where the last left off.

Its no suprise that the books read like Westerns as Laurence James (the author) had written a whole host ofother books set in the wild west prior to picking up DL under several other pen names. Jak for example is an almost direct rip off of a character called "Whitey" (Jak is called "Whitey" in many of his DL books by various people) from his own Herne the Hunter series (as John J MacLaglan).

Laurence also wrote a short series of books about Hells angels (as Mick Norman) too.

You can find an almost completre list of his books here

    Enjoy,

    Jim

A Mancunian and a Scouse actually talking to each other, must not be football fans! (Just kidding). I'm about half way betwixt you as I'm considered a Yikker, or was half way as I'm now an Ex-pat living in Canada, London Ontario to be exact.
Are there many others of our ilk on this forum? I don't visit here as often as I should, is there a "Where are you from" thread here as in a lot of other forums I frequent? If not, I'd like to know how to start one.

    Cheers lads, Graham
