Ok having listened to most (not all) of the first 33 books, and also having listened to book 97 (BTW I got book 97 to at least be somewhat up to date with you guys here) Ive noticed a few differences, note this could be a author thing..

    1. Ryan is allot harder and colder, yet his word actually means somthing in 97, where as his word didnt mean shit in first 33 books.. honor in first 33 was a waste of time, now it matters..

    2. Jak whines and his actions are takes to save face.. again, this was never a issue in first 33 books.. he didnt have shit to prove to anyone.

    3. Mildred is annoying.. Ok, many things to say here.. but heres a few..

    a) in first 33 her father killed by KKK, yet her fav music is country? Ok.. Fine.. but in book 97 shes a rap expert? Havent meet a person in my whole life that gives a shit about both.. hmmm

    b) Where she was argumentative somewhat in the First 33, now shes one of those "sassy black chics" that is the typical stereo type. (dont get all PC on me, just pointing out what I see as differences)

    4. not sure how to say this so it expresses what I mean but I sence that Ryan is far more a dictator in 97 vs first 33, yeah he ran shit undisputed in first 33, but he wasnt do as I say or fuck off, as he seems to be in book 97..

anyway those are but some of the differences I have noticed.

Yeah, it's an author thing. I assume 97 is Playfair's Axiom? I noted that the characters did have slightly different personalities there too. You really just have to shrug and put up with it, because we've got a half-dozen people writing the books.

The first 33 books are "REAL" Deathlands. Written by (almost) one author who created almost ALL of the characters and had a real idea of who and what they are and there relationship with each other.

I think the interaction between the characters in the first 33 books is some of the best we have seen. Once a number of writers put there own ideas into the mix things got really messed up.

Peachy Carnehan: Not gods - Englishmen. The next best thing.

I quite like the new books, the last one was brilliant. It was sad and unfortunate that Mr James died so young(ish) in the prime of his writing career with a great book series that he put his heart and soul into.
I just wonder how the series would have differed if he was still alive.
As for Jak for the most part i don't think he complains alot, this was maybe just in playfair axiom.
