Brother Michael was brought into the Deathlands by Ryan Cawdor and his friends when they used the time trawling equipment they discovered in the Chicago redoubt.
For the first little while, he has a very hard time accepting what Ryan and the others tell him about the Deathlands, but soon discovers that they were not lying, nor were they insane.
He spent most of his life in a monastery called Nil-Vanity which was located near Visalia, California. Here he was taught the martial arts form known as Tao-Tain-Do. He was never taught anything about the outside world, as there were no TV's, magazines, radios, or anything that might influence the people who lived there.
There were no women at the monastery. The first time Krysty tried to touch him, he panicked, saying that he can never be touched by a woman. Obviously he is still very much a virgin.
He is incredibly fast, even faster than Jak Lauren. And as for accuracy, few can beat him. For a man who has never stepped outside the monastery in his life, he is no stranger to death. There had been several murders, and suicides within the monastery. He finds killing very easy, even though he prayed for the souls of those he was forced to kill defending his own life.
Having left the monastery behind, he decides to change his name and forget everything about his previous life, which he will never be able to return to. He changed his name from Brother Michael to Michael Brother.
While staying with the scientists in the Florida keys, Michael at first found himself at odds with a young woman named Miranda, but it turned to something like love or lust. He didn't lose his virginity to her, but came damned close. It wasn't until their stay at the ville of Sun Crest in Kansas that he finally did lose his virginity to Marie Mandeville, the daughter of the baron. But the girl was pure evil and in the end Michael kills her by snapping her neck.
During a jump out of a totally alien environment, something happens to Michael and he begins to slip into depression. While staying in the ville of Quindley he falls deeply in love with a young woman named Dorothy. After the ville is destroyed he persuades her to join the group and they go to jump out. However, during the jump she manages to get up and leave the gateway chamber.
The loss of Dorothy pushes him even further. He is quite moody and constantly snaps at his friends. He is unable to keep any food down as well, but finally does make an attempt to be friendly and helpful. But after watching Jak's wife and daughter killed, it is too much for him and he ends up hanging himself in the Lauren's barn. He is buried along side Christina and Jenny.
